Had right knee replaced 5 weeks ago. Will be having second knee on Oct 15. I needed to have them both done because I was just about disable. They were both bone on bone and my legs were starting to bow. The quality of my life was very much hurting.
Could not walk, I waddled. Sleeping at night had become non existent.
I put it off for quite a few years because of financial reasons and I could not get off from work.
I am not one of the people on here that can say it was a breeze. It was very rough. I still have a decent amount of pain after 5 weeks. But I know I am making progress and getting stronger. It's amazing how differently people heal. Some people really do have an easier time and some like me and many others I met in physical therapy not so easy. I was supposed to have them done a week apart but had some complications with the medication. One thing I learned the hard way is you have to keep on top of the pain and find a dose that works for you.
It is hard still anticipating having my other knee done soon. But there is no backing out now I came this far.
I am hoping in a few months from now I too, will be able to say it was all worth it. Bottom line I had no choice if there was any chance on getting my life back.
It's a pretty traumatic surgery. You have to have patience and most importantly you have to do your exercises and physical therapy. I was lucky in that way. Although I have had quite a bit of pain, my knee was able to bend at the 90 degree angle that they want very soon. I did work on it even through the pain.
So I will continue to post on my progress and after ny second surgery. Hopefully having learned through the first experience I will go easier.
This site is a great thing and has helped me a lot. You can only prepare yourself so much and it's very helpful and reassuring to hear all the different experiences. Not to mention hopeful

Good luck on your surgery. I am scheduled for my left knee on Oct. 14. I am really nervous. My dr says I may be able to put off the right one for a few years. I don't think it will last that long.
