I am 67 had my right knee replaced in 2012 and had planned on having my left one done after Christmas this past year. I started having foot problems and was diagnosed with an accessory navicular bone (an extra bone in my foot) and after several therapies it was decided I needed surgery. On September 15th the bone was removed and a tendon had to be cut and repaired to remove the bone. The surgeon said I should be able to have my second knee replacement done after Christmas. Unfortunately the recovery has been very slow. I have done physical therapy which didn't help, anti-inflammatories which took some swelling down. Now I'm doing weekly shock waves to that area. I can walk on the foot and it's strong but painful. Both the foot surgeon and the knee surgeon said to go ahead with the knee replacement and hopefully this will help my foot to heal by not putting so much weight on it. Apparently because of the pain in my knee I am putting extra weight on my surgical foot. Has anyone had a similar situation? I am scared the foot still will not heal.

I've not experienced what you're going through. Sure hope it all goes well. My biggest stress factor before surgery were my allergies. The pollen count in AZ was extremely high and I could barely breathe. At one point I thought I'd cancel the surgery. So glad I didn't. They ended up giving me an epidural block and light sedation instead of general anesthesia. It was much better all the way around.

Wishing you success on your surgery. Keep us posted.
