Long and Winding Road

The journey with my right knee started when I was 17. I suffered a traumatic sports injury between my junior and senior year of high school. While playing softball and sliding into second base, I tore my medial meniscus. The pain was excruciating.

In 1980, the only alternative was to remove the damaged cartilage. So about half of the cartilage was removed at that time.

In 1982, the remainder of the cartilage was removed due to another injury.

I was in a bone-on-bone situation for more than 30 years.

My knee gradually deteriorated in my forties to the 12 months preceding the surgery that I experienced intense and frequent pain. It was then that I decided to pursue total knee replacement surgery at age 50 to regain my quality of life.
