I decided to finally take the plunge and have replacement surgery when I couldn't even go for a 10 minute walk without constant pain. I'm in very good shape; I may not be able to jog any longer because of my knee but mountain biking and elliptical workouts generally don't cause me too much pain. I also love to hike and recently visited my daughter in Oregon where there are many absolutely gorgeous hiking trails just outside the city. I ventured out one day on my own and I guess I took a wrong turn and my 1 hour hike turned into a 5 hour hike. I was in such pain the next day. After that I was ready! I'm 53 and I'm far too young to give up on biking, hiking and even fast walking. I may be ok with hanging up the jogging shoes if need be but I'm still active and intend to stay active.

Surgery has been tough but I'm going to push through it and I'm extremely motivated to get back to the lifestyle I enjoy without limitation and encourage anyone sitting on the fence to do the same.

I have osteoarthritis in my right knee, I don't even want to think about the left one. I am trying to understand when I should get the knee replacement, my surgeon is kind of noncommittal about it and I just don't know. I'm in physical therapy but I am still in horrible pain. I can't wait to have my knee replacement but I have issues, like taking care of my 85 year old mother with dementia. Who would take care of her while I was incapacitated... etc...
