What, I need to get my other knee replaced

About a year ago, I decided to replace my right knee. I waited a while, scheduling the surgery for July 2014. In June 2014, my left knee started to hurt. I was getting severe shooting pains when I walked and put weight on that leg.

I got my right knee replaced and all went well. Except I kept getting shooting pains in my left knee. I complained to my doctor, physical therapists and everyone else. We tried a series of Supartz injections in the left knee. The injections helped a little, but I was still getting pain in the left knee. We also tried exercises and physical therapy. My right knee was fine, but the left knee never got better.

I decided to replace the left knee ASAP. The tipping point came when I realized I could only walk a block or so before I got the shooting pain in the left knee. After my right knee recovered, I was still walking with a cane to support my left knee. This was not what I wanted. I wanted to walk comfortably with no assistive devices.

In November 2014, four months after I had the right knee replaced, I had surgery to replace the left knee. That was five weeks ago. Fortunately, the shooting pain is gone. I am getting post op pain in the left knee but it is improving. I can straighten the knee now and, the last time it was measured, I could bend it to 117 degrees. I don't have as much energy as I would like at this point but I'm sure that will improve. And I have been able to walk for about a block using a cane. I am hopeful that, finally, I will have two working knees. I'm looking forward to being able to fully exercise and rehab both knees. I want to get my life back, return to work, start taking walks and get back to activities such as dance classes and going out dancing with my boyfriend. I was not planning on getting both knees replaced this year but it turns out that is what I had to do.

That's great that you now have 2 new knees! I had my right knee replaced on Jan 6 2016. I figured my left knee would not be happy since I have to rely on it so much. i was right since it s getting painful. I hope to follow your lead and get it done ASAP one the right knee is more reliable. I wish you a speedy recovery.
