Pre surgery advice

There's lots of wonderful stories here, but specific advice seems a little shy. I learned that the technology of knee replacement has evolved rather dramatically over the past few years, so many of the "older" websites give you irrelevant info. So here's my story. As of February 1, 2016, I was 67 years old and suffering from psoriatic arthritis. My left knee was really giving me fits, I couldn't get through a trip to Costco without some sit down time. AND, yes I'm still emplooyed, I own a small consulting business and this knee thing was giving me fits. They had me up and walking on Day !, and I went home on Day 2. I heard a lot about "six weeks" which i believed and turned out to be BS. At six weeks you will still be in pain but you will be getting around. Some points my doctor never mentioned:
After your surgery, you will need to lift your fat ass off the sofa with your good leg, so BEFORE surgery spend some time doing leg presses at the gym on the "non surgical" leg. Even a few weeks will be good.
Get an "elevated toilet seat" The scariest thing I faced on my return home was getting my six foot five butt down on to that little toilet seat. An ETS is only $20 from Amazon
get a little notebook to keep track of your meds. I had never head to do such a thing before, but when you are counting the hours until you can take another pill it's important.
Buy some "stool softeners". Yeah, they told me about that at the hospital; right when I don't want to deal with this shit. It's because the opoids cause constipation. You probably won't need them more than a week.
I hope I'll be able to update this . It's just what I'm thinking at the moment. Cheers.

Thanks for the advice. I'm 3 days away from my surgery so going to get elevated toilet today. Feeling anxious, wishing it were over already. Guess I'll talk to you on the other side of surgery. Wish me luck.

Thanks for the real story about what to expect. I am 1 week from surgery and starting to get scared - but people that I have talked with who had the surgery say it's worth it.
